What We Believe
St. Vincent’s is an Episcopal Church. What that means is that we are a part of something bigger, part of a worldwide communion of Christ followers joined together through the common worship, prayer, and theological understanding known as The Anglican Tradition.
Our understanding of God has been and continues to be developed through scripture, tradition, and reason, with scripture as the foundation from which tradition and reason are explored. St. Vincent's is the Anglican expression of this understanding of the Christian Faith in St. Petersburg, Florida.
We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the revealed Word of God, containing all things necessary to salvation, and to be the rule and ultimate standard of faith.
We are are creedal Church, meaning we believe The Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed are sufficient statements of the Christian faith.
We are a liturgical church, using the structure found in the Book of Common Prayer to order our worship together.
We are a sacramental church, believing that Jesus ordained certain expressions of his ministry to be practiced and offered through The Church. The two primary sacraments of the Episcopal Church are Holy Baptism and The Holy Eucharist.
Holy Baptism is the sacrament by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members of Christ's Body, the Church, and inheritors of the kingdom of God. Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ's Body the Church, and the bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble.
The Holy Eucharist is the sacrament commanded by Christ for the continual remembrance of his life, death, and resurrection, until his coming again.
We are a church with a mission, to be used by God with the hope to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.
We are a praying church, believing that God listens and speaks to His children in countless ways.
We are a welcoming church, believing that all mankind is created in the image of God, called good, and are within the reach of Christ's loving and saving embrace.
We are a serving church, seeking ways to serve local, regional, and international communities, with the hope of shining the light of Christ's love through our actions and deeds.
We are a family church, celebrating with each other during moments of joy, weeping with each other during moments of sorrow, and speaking the truth of the Gospel to each other during crises of faith.
